The construction of the class 78 was very successful, so from 1912 to 1927 a total of 544 machines were built for Germany and abroad. The locomotives could travel at 100 km\/h in both directions due to the symmetrically built running gear. Because of this capability, the tender locomotives were predestined for push-pull service, and the machines were also used in light express and freight service.<\/p>\n
