On the DR BR 41, the original boilers were made of a non-ageing-resistant steel grade St47k. These boilers already showed severe damage before 1945. Eventually, the operating pressure had to be reduced from 20 to 16 bar. However, this measure did not help to avert the damage and the danger of a boiler blowing up became greater and greater.<\/p>\n

Because the German Reichsbahn of the GDR was constantly suffering from a lack of locomotives, 80 class 41 locomotives were reconstructed that were still equipped with a St47k boiler. The biggest change was that the reconstructed locomotives were reboilered with a welded combustion chamber boiler of type 39E. These boilers, which were also used on the 03, 03.10 and 39 series, proved to be very good steam generators. These locomotives can be recognised by the missing feed dome, the trapezoidal mixing preheater above the smoke chamber and the large ash box.<\/p>\n

Until the end of the steam locomotive era in the GDR, the very popular machines were used in front of freight and passenger trains and in front of high-quality express and fast trains. It should also be mentioned that in the course of the oil crisis in 1979\/80, locomotives that had already been earmarked for dismantling returned to operational service.<\/p>\n

During the design process of the 41 series, the focus was on appearance and function. The model should therefore be driven at least on the R72 radius. To achieve good driving characteristics, the model can be motorised with two L-motors. In addition, a steam generator and LEDs can be installed, battery box and IR receiver find their place in the tender.<\/p>\n
