The world-famous elephant lady "Tuffi" is now yours to build from bricks: a wonderful gift for young and old alike.
When Circus Althoff came to Wuppertal in 1950, the young elephant Tuffi was supposed to take a promotional ride on the Schwebebahn (suspension railway). On July 21, the trip set off from Alter Markt station, but even before the next stop, Adlerbrücke, the crowd became too much for the little elephant. Trumpeting loudly, she pushed against the outer wall of the Schwebebahn car, and it gave way. Tuffi fell into the Wupper River and survived the drop with just a small scrape on her bottom. This story, told from the city of the Schwebebahn, made Tuffi a little celebrity.
