The 18 201 was created under austerity from the tank locomotive 61 002 and the experimental locomotive H45 024. The locomotive would be used for running quality tests and as a braking locomotive. At the time, consideration would also be given to acquiring one of the class 05 locomotives located in West Germany, but this plan was scrapped due to lack of foreign currency from the DR at the time.
The locomotive is the fastest operable steam locomotive in the world at 180km/h, thanks mainly to its 2,300mm driving wheels. It has been stationed at the testing station in Halle an der Saale since it was built. Today it is owned by the WFL and is being restored to working order.
The designation 18 201 is a second use of the series designation 18.2 (former Baden IVf), the first locomotives of the axle sequence 2'C'1 "Pacific" in Germany, thus the first and last German Pacific has the designation 18.2.
During the design process, it was particularly difficult to make the proportions of the partial cladding as realistic as possible. Due to the large wheels, the locomotive should be run on at least R72 radii. The model can be motorised with two L-motors and a steam module can also be installed.
In addition, a steam module can be installed, which you can purchase here: www.joooooy.com
