The Siemens Smartron is a vehicle from the locomotive family of the German rail vehicle manufacturer Siemens Mobility, which is based on the Siemens Vectron locomotive platform. It was presented by Siemens on 1 March 2018.
The Smartron is a simplified version of the Siemens Vectron. The vehicle is only offered in a pre-configured version that has already received approval for Germany. Further approvals exist for Romania and Bulgaria. This is to reduce costs.
The locomotive is R40 suitable and can be equipped with one or two Powered Up drives or one or two 9 Volt motors.
