The Blücher was a heavy cruiser of the Admiral Hipper class, the type ship of which she was originally intended to be. She was ordered by the Kriegsmarine under the household name Kreuzer G and named after the Prussian Field Marshal Blücher.
The class was named after the second ship, the Admiral Hipper, because there were delays in the construction of the Blücher and the Admiral Hipper was launched four months early.
The Blücher's first combat mission during the invasion of Norway, "Unternehmen Weserübung," resulted in the ship's total loss on April 9, 1940. Prior to this, the Blücher was released from trials on 30 March 1940. Full combat readiness was to be declared from 3 May 1940. On April 7, 1940, the training deficiencies in the areas of heavy artillery as well as combat service and lick defense were reported in writing to the Naval High Command. The model shows the Blücher in her 1940 configuration and camouflage.
The gun turrets are all 4 rotatable and so different gun and tube angles can be displayed for presentation.
