The first examples of the class 50 were built in 1939. The beginning of World War 2 caused the demand for freight locomotives to rise sharply, so by 1945 3164 Class 50 locomotives had been built. After the war, they remained throughout Europe.

The original boiler was made of steel that was not resistant to ageing, as was usual for some unit locomotives, which is why the DB sometimes used class 52 boilers on its locomotives and the DR procured new-build boilers and reconstructed its Br 50 locomotives.

The class 50 was one of the most versatile locomotives of the unit programme. They were used in front of all types of trains, sporadically also in front of express trains. However, the strong twitching movements of the engine proved to be very uncomfortable for the locomotive crew at high speeds. Due to the low axle load of only 15t, the locomotive could also be used on branch lines.

The model shows the already simplified DRG version with Witte smoke deflectors, tub tender and "Norwegian driver's cab". The model is motorised with the help of an L-motor and with the power function system. With the coupling distance shown in the instructions, the model can already be run on the R56 radius, but the R72 radius is recommended.

A steam generator can be installed in the boiler, you can purchase this generator here:
