The Castor containers coming from the French reprocessing plant La Hague between 1996 and 2011 were reloaded onto the freight wagons at Areva's loading station in Valognes. From there, they reached Germany via the railway border crossings at Kehl, Lauterbourg or Forbach. In total, the trains covered a distance of about 1200 kilometres. In Germany, the Castor train was usually hauled by four specially equipped class 232 diesel locomotives along the entire route to the loading station in Dannenberg.
The wagon is fully R40 compatible!
