The class 103(pre-series: E 03) locomotives of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) are heavy six-axle electric locomotives for fast passenger service. The E 03/103 were long considered the flagship of the DB and, along with the diesel locomotives of the V 200 series, were one of the best-known German locomotive series. With a continuous output of 7,440 kW (10,116 hp), the 103 were the most powerful single-unit locomotives in the world when they entered service and are still the most powerful locomotives ever used in regular service by a railway in Germany.
The DB used four pre-series examples of the E 03 as "express locomotives" from 1965. These were re-designated as 103 001 to 004 in 1968 according to the DB's new numbering scheme. From 1970 to 1974, the total of 145 series locomotives went into service as 103 101 to 245. They are officially designated as class 103.1.
From 1997 onwards, the 103 was gradually withdrawn from service by Deutsche Bahn and replaced in passenger service by the 101 series. After almost thirty years in service, the vehicles were worn out from being used over long distances in front of heavy intercity trains at speeds of up to 200 km/h. In 2003, Deutsche Bahn ordered the retirement of all vehicles. However, the DB Museum still uses E03 001, 103 113 and 103 245 for special trains and transfers to this day.
The model represents the series version of the 103 in Lufthansa Airport Express livery and single-arm pantographs.
The model can be equipped with one or two Powered Up drives or with one or two 9Volt drives.
The minimum radius is R40.
