NS's class 1600 is a four-axle electric locomotive built between 1980 and 1983, based on the BB 7200 of the French state railroad SNCF and first entered service with NS in 1981.
The passenger cars were purchased from Deutsche Bahn. They are ex Interregio cars. NS has repainted the cars in its design.

The locomotive can be equipped with a powered up drive or a 9Volt motor.
