The Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft demanded a fast freight locomotive that could also be used in front of express trains. The 1934 design by Berliner Maschinenbau AG prevailed because of the 1'D'1 axle arrangement. During the development, the advantage of the unit locomotive became apparent; the total development costs amounted to only 10,000 Reichsmark. Another advantage over other freight locomotives were the driving wheels with a diameter of 1,600 millimetres, which allowed the class 41 to accelerate very well and to reach 90 km/h. The locomotives were also equipped with a new type of engine. A major disadvantage, however, was the boiler, which was made of St47k steel that was not resistant to ageing. Due to the Second World War, only 366 units of this very successful machine were built.
After the war, the two German states could not do without the locomotives, so the remaining machines, which still had a boiler made of St47k steel, were fitted with new high-performance boilers with combustion chambers. The locomotives remained in service until the "steam locomotive death" of the DB (1977) and the DR (1988).
During the design process, the focus was on appearance and function. The model should therefore be driven at least on the R72 radius. To achieve good driving characteristics, the model can be motorised with two L-motors. In addition, a steam generator and LEDs can be installed, battery box and IR receiver find their place in the tender.
In addition, a steam module can be installed, which you can purchase here: www.joooooy.com
