The unit wagons IV are the successors of the light steel wagons and were built between 1956 and 1967. They were originally painted in SBB green and had a weight of 28 to 32 tonnes, a length of 23.7 m and a maximum permissible speed of 140 km/h. The first four unit wagons appeared in 1956, shortly before the abolition of the third wagon class still as C4ü.
