The DRG asked itself whether the view from a traditionally arranged driver's cab could be improved to guarantee operational safety even at high speeds. This eventually resulted in the class 05 003 with a cab at the front and a standing boiler. Feeding was to take place via a pulverised coal turbine.

The whole concept did not prove successful because the coal dust did not burn completely and clogged the heating and flue pipes.

As early as 1944, the streamlined locomotive was converted to a traditional steam locomotive and remained in service with the German Federal Railways until 1958. Due to the smaller steam generator compared to its sister engines, the 05 003 was somewhat less powerful, but due to better boiler dimensions and the combustion chamber, the 003 was the most efficient of the 05s.

The model shows the condition of the DB around 1951, it can be motorised with Power Funktions and 2 L motors. Due to the prototypical large wheels, the minimum radius that can be driven corresponds to R72.
