The class 111 is an electric locomotive series of the Deutsche Bahn. A total of 227 of the four-axle locomotives were built between 1974 and 1984. Today, the 160 km/h locomotives are mainly used in regional and local transport, while heavy long-distance passenger transport was also part of their remit when they entered service. In the Rhine-Ruhr area, they were used in the 1980s in suburban railway traffic, for which the corresponding construction series were painted differently and equipped with train destination indicators in the form of rolling band displays.

The locomotive represents the version in orient red with single-arm pantographs.

It can be equipped with a Powerd Up drive or with a 9Volt drive.

The minimum radius is R40.
