The class E 10 is a standard electric locomotive for express train service, first built for the German Federal Railways in 1952. Since 1968 it has been known as the 110 series and its sub-series as the 112 to 115 series. For many years, the E 10 was the most important locomotive series in German express train traffic. After the railway reform, the locomotives were mainly used in local traffic. Individual locomotives of the 115 series ran until 2020 in front of "passenger trains for special purposes" for the transfer of wagons; in the meantime, all locomotives of this series have been retired from scheduled service.
The class 110.3/112 (Bundesbahn) uses the body of the E 10.12 with a more protruding front face, also known as the "Bügelfalten" box. The frame is supported on the bogies by coil springs and rubber elements. In the beginning, especially in the upper speed ranges, a bumpy running was noticeable, which required several reworks on the bogies. Flexicoil suspension was also tested in two locomotives (110 475 and 476).
Die Lok stellt die BR 112/E10.12 in der TEE Lackierung dar.
The locomotive can be equipped with a powered up drive or with a 9 volt motor.
