Originally called the Badische IVh, the locomotives enjoy legendary status among railroad fans, much like the Bavarian S3/6 or the Württemberg 4c.
The vehicles were procured to speed up express train service on the Mannheim-Basel route; after all, the 20 machines in total were able to travel at the remarkable speed of 140 kph. After the war, the locomotives remained in West Germany with the exception of the 18 314. However, they were taken out of service very early as a splinter class, but 3 locomotives were to serve as test vehicles at the experimental station in Minden.
Among these 3 was also the 18 316, this had been equipped with an extended smokebox since 1965. During a test run to test pantographs, this locomotive set the speed record for state railroad locomotives of 162 km/h and thereby also surpassed the legendary Bavarian S2/6.
The locomotives also caused a stir with long runs of around 977km on the Hamburg-Altona Freilassing line, without slagging or any other maintenance, just filling up with water and coal.
The model can be driven on R72 and can be motorized with Power Functions and 2 L-motors.
In addition, a steam module can be installed, which you can purchase here: www.joooooy.com
