The torpedo ladle car is a torpedo-like container between two long bogies in which liquid iron is transported. A typical torpedo car holds between 160 and 320 tonnes of liquid iron; a train consists of four to six such cars.
Torpedo carts can be closed tightly and can keep the iron liquid for much longer (up to 30 hours) than normal ladle wagons.
